A decision has been made in the new trial of murdered university student Pınar Gültekin (27) in Muğla.

Defendant Cemal Metin Avcı, who was sentenced to 23 years in prison by the local court, was sentenced on appeal to life imprisonment with aggravating circumstances.

Detained Defendant Cemal Metin Avcı and his brother Mertcan Avcı, who was on trial awaiting trial, attended the hearing at the 4th Penal Chamber of Izmir Regional Court through the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS).

In the room, Pınar Gültekin’s father, Sıddık Gültekin, mother Şefika Gültekin, party lawyers and representatives were present.

Killer Cemal Metin Avcı said he had not planned the incident and he regretted it.

The court board decided that defendant Cemal Metin Avcı received a heavy life sentence for the crime of “killing deliberately by planning and tormenting with a monstrous feeling” by revoking the wrongful provocation decision of the local court.

The delegation ruled that there is no room for “unjust provocation” and “good behavior” rebates to the accused Avcı.

Avcı’s brother, Mertcan Avcı, was also sentenced to 4 years in prison for “destroying, concealing and altering criminal evidence”.

“A PRIDE PUNISHMENT THAT MAKES JUSTICE POSSIBLE”

Rezan Epözdemir, the lawyer for the Gültekin family, told reporters after the hearing that they were extremely pleased with the decision.

Epözdemir stated that a symbolic case related to femicides has been concluded today and said, “Thank God the appeals court turned away from this mistake and issued a precedent verdict that fulfilled justice.” he said.

“TODAY I WILL SLEEP EASILY”

In contrast, Father Sıddık Gültekin recalled that the case took 3 years and said, “Justice has been manifested, albeit late. A little cold water has been poured into our hearts today. Long live justice.” said.

Mother Şefika Gültekin thanked everyone who supported them and said, “I will sleep comfortably today, even though it is late.” said.
