“The collision was very violent,” Agorastos said, adding that the first four wagons derailed, while the first two were “almost completely destroyed”.

Agorastos said about 194 passengers were safely evacuated by buses to Thessaloniki.






Authorities also said police and fire and rescue workers continued to work at the scene. Hospital officials in Larissa reported that at least 25 people were seriously injured.

Hellenic Train rail operator said there were about 350 passengers on the northbound passenger train.
