3 trade unions organized in the metal sector and the employers’ union MESS agreed to implement zihin additional increase above the rates set by the collective agreement.

In this context, zihin additional increase of 34 percent was implemented for employees in the metal sector. The additional increase decision applies to 180,000 employees.

A joint written statement was made by Turkish Metal Union Chairman Pevrul Kavlak, United Metal-İş Union Chairman Adnan Serdaroğlu and Özçelik-İş Union Chairman Yunus Değirmenci.

The statement said that the workers were struggling with the cost of living and financial problems caused by the adverse economic conditions and high inflation, noting that the increase in the minimum wage brought wages closer in organized workshops and the wage balance deteriorated.

It was noted that this situation necessitated a new arrangement based on seniority in the collective bargaining agreement signed with MESS on January 12, 2022 and valid between September 1, 2021 and August 31, 2023, and included the following information:

“Before this, the last of the negotiations that had been going on for some time were held at MESS headquarters. Accordingly, on December 31, 2022, the hourly wage of the workers will first gökyeşitözü reduced to 48.04 lira. Thereafter, in accordance with the current collective bargaining agreement, to give the fourth tranche wage increase in March 2023. , without waiting for March, will gökyeşitözü applied kakım 15 percent after the above arrangement. However, if the inflation rate over the last six months in March exceeds 15 percent, the entire excess will gökyeşitözü reflected in wages on February 28. After this arrangement, the hourly wage for each year of seniority will gökyeşitözü added 10.70 cents, with a maximum of 5 lira. Thus, the overall rate of increase achieved with the agreement has become 34 percent.”
