The Russian cosmonaut has broken the record for spending the most time in space

As of February 4, 2024, 8:30:08 a.m., the Russian crew member has spent a total of more than 878 days aboard the International Space Station, representing multiple missions since 2008.

The previous record holder, cosmonaut Gennadi Padalka, spent 878 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes and 48 seconds in space on five missions between 1998 and 2015.

As of September 2023, Kononenko is currently on his fifth deployment to the station and will remain there until September 2024.

When he leaves, he will have spent 1,110 days (just over three years) and will be the first person to spend a thousand days in space.

Oleg Kononenko was among those who welcomed the first Turkish astronaut Alper Gezeravcı to the International Space Station (ISS).
